NO other name

aymon de albatrus

"Jesus said to him, I am the Way, and the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." (Joh 14:6)

"Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved." (Act 4:12)

Men are great rationalizers and every man thinks of His beliefs as being the right one, well of course, otherwise one would have a split mind and be a hypocrite, though not an impossible thing. For this reason most religions have the tendency to exclude all other. Orthodox Jews claim to have the true path. Muslims claim to have the best revelation of God. Hindus believe that they are right, and Buddhists believe what they do, not surprisingly, because they think it is correct. Even the modern pluralists believe that pluralism is more right than other ideas. An aphorism: "Every single man in His own eyes thinks to be correct and everyone else wrong."

Christianity has incorporated in its Bible clear statements, by Jesus Himself, that indeed exclude all others. People often object to the Christian belief that salvation is available only through Jesus Christ, for they say that all paths lead to the same God. They are not tolerant of the "narrow-minded arrogant" Christians who believe in only one way, and they object to evangelism, for example, as an insulting attempt to change the beliefs of other people. Yet, they themselves want to change the beliefs of people who believe in only one way. Our pluralistic culture, which permits all religions, gives the impression to mean that all religions are somehow equally true. Not according to Jesusí words: No one comes to the Father except through Me.

We Christian believe that the Bible is Correct, Inerrant and The Only True guide to know God, as it attests, nevertheless we do allow liberty to others not to believe it. Whilst we agree to the right for people to believe, as they want, we do not concur to mean that all faiths are true. Moreover, in allowing other people to believe as they fancy, we do not quit believing that Jesus is the only way of salvation, for our Bible says so.

To say that all faiths lead to the same god is quite clearly a false statement for different religion describe different gods. For example the Hindu has many gods and the ultimate achievement, nirvana, describes salvation by returning to nothingness. This concept drastically differs from that of a Muslim that emphasizes monotheism and the final destination as a heaven based on natural rewards. In no way would they both agree that their religions lead to a same god destination, in fact they are diametrically opposed. Furthermore they would definitely dismiss the pluralist western approach to religion as condescending and uninformed, and an offence to the faiths that the pluralists do not want to offend.

The tenets of the Bible are that the Bible teaches that there is no other way to salvation other than through Christ. Jesus says in John 14:6, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me." Jesus is the only way of salvation because He is the only One who can pay our sin penalty (Romans 6:23). No other religion teaches the depth or seriousness of sin and its consequences. No other religion offers the infinite payment of sin that only Jesus Christ could provide. No other "religious founder" was God become man (John 1:1,14) Ė the only way an infinite debt could be paid. Jesus had to be divine so that He could pay our debt. Jesus had to be man so He could die. Salvation is available only through faith in Jesus Christ! "Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved" (Act 4:12). All roads may lead to Rome, but not all religion lead to salvation, indeed according to the Bible only one leads to God the Father.

"Jesus said to him, I am the Way, and the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." (Joh 14:6)

Christ paved by His own blood His own way to His Father and entered in once into the holy place, "He entered once for all into the holy places, not by means of the blood of goats and calves but by means of his own blood, thus securing an eternal redemption." (Heb 9:12). And told His disciples that through this way they also will be with Him and with the Father: "And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to Myself, that where I am you may be also." (Joh 14:3)

Christ is our WAY to heaven by the doctrine which He taught; by His death, by which He purchased this heavenly inheritance for us; by His holy life and conversation, setting us an example that we should follow His steps; by the influence of His Spirit, guiding us to, and assisting us in, those holy actions by which we must come unto the heavenly glory.

He is the TRUTH; that is the true way to life eternal: He is the truth as to His doctrine, the Bible being the word of truth and His Gospel: "in whom also you, hearing the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, in whom also believing you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise," (Eph 1:13)

He is the LIFE, the Author and Giver of eternal life, "Jesus said to her, I am the Resurrection and the Life. The one believing into Me, though he die, he shall live." (Joh 11:25) By His death on the cross he purchased the life of His people and by His Holy Spirit He carries our faith to perfection: "looking to the Author and Finisher of our faith, Jesus, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, "and sat down at the right" of the throne of God. Psa 110:1" (Heb 12:2)

Therefore Christ can say that there is no coming to the Father but by me. In effect stating that: "there is no other way for you or any other, to come to heaven, but by receiving, and embracing, and believing in me." "And they said, "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household." (Act 16:31)

No man can come to the Father except by the merits of the Lord Jesus Christ. By coming Ďby Himí is meant coming in His name and depending on His merits. We are ignorant, and He alone can guide us. We are sinful, and it is only by His merits that we can be pardoned. We are blind, and He only can enlighten us. God has appointed Him as the ONLY Mediator "For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus," (1Ti 2:5), and has ordained that all blessings shall descend to this world through Him alone. Hence He has put the world under His control; has given the affairs of men into His hand, and has appointed Him to dispense whatever may be necessary for our peace, pardon, and salvation.

If ALL Power and Authority is given to Christ, what is there left for the other religions? "And Jesus came and said to them, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me." (Mat 28:18)

"Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved." (Act 4:12 AV)

Neither is there salvation in any other Meaning spiritual and eternal salvation; Christ is the only Saviour and Redeemer, who was promised and prophesied of as such; who has saved and redeemed His people from the law, sin, and Satan. Salvation is not to be sought and hoped for from any other; not in a manís self, nor in any other creature, angels or men; not in and by His own works, and legal righteousness; not by obedience to the law of Moses, nor in saints, Madonnas, churches or any other religions BUT in Christ alone.

for there is none other name; thing or person, be it ever so great, or whatever show of power and strength, of holiness and religion, t makes; as the name of kings, princes, and the great men in the world; or of ministers and preachers in the church; or even of Christians and believers, which may be only a name to live; none but the name of Jesus, His person, blood, and righteousness:

under heaven: throughout the whole earth, in all the nations and kingdoms of it; nor even in heaven itself, among all the mighty angels there, thrones, dominions principalities, and powers; none but the Father and the Spirit, who are one with Christ: there is none but He

given among men; and He has been freely given by His Father, as an instance of His matchless love to the world; and also freely given by Himself, to be a sacrifice for the sins of His people; and is freely preached among men, as the only Saviour of them; for there is no other,

whereby we must be saved: God resolved in His purposes and decrees, in His council and covenant, upon the salvation of His chosen people; and He appointed His Son to be the salvation of them, and determined He would save them by Him, and by no other, and in no other way; wherefore, whoever are saved, must be saved by Him, see Hos 1:7

Now God has complete sovereignty on His creation and there is none other, and as the omnipotent Creator, Ruler and Keeper of all that has been created He can very well attribute the salvific benefits gained by Christ on the Cross to anyone He wants to, even to a savage in the wild Amazon as well as a derelict hobo in any metropolis. But the principle is that NO ONE can come to the Father, be saved and go to Heaven unless it is through Christ. This we have seen without any shadow of doubt from the Word of God, the Bible.

Those Christians that are silent on this truth and those that give the impression (even agreeing) that there is salvation in other religions do a disservice to the people for they are false witness and with their doing mislead people into false security. They are in danger of: "But whoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven." (Mat 10:33)

We are to be true witness and boldly proclaim Christ and Him crucified to a lost world, leaving the freedom to people to refuse the marvellous Salvation for it is God that gives a new heart by which people will seek Him and walk in His commands: "26 A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. 27 And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and you shall keep my judgments, and do them." (Eze 36:26-27) Remembering that it is He that gives a new heart, without that: "There is none that understands, there is none that seeks after God." (Rom 3:11)

Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter

These words are clear; "there is no name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved." There is no confusion here nor can these words be interpreted in any other way than to mean that the only way anyone will ever go to Heaven is through the name of Jesus Christ.

Jesus here is categorically stated as the only mediator between God and man as supported by: "For God is one, also there is one Mediator of God and of men, the Man Christ Jesus," (1Ti 2:5). No one goes to heaven except through the atoning redemption purchased by Jesus Christ on the cross, there exists NO other way according to the Bible.

Based on texts like Acts 4:12, it is clear that there is no alternative but that Christianity makes an exclusive truth claim to be the only true religion, and therefore the scandal of the cross cannot be removed, just because it offends the other religions and the democrats who think all religions are good and just as valid. Scripture says that there is only one way to God, and because in Christ all have access to salvation whether Jew or Greek, men or women, all races, tribes and tongues, all are called to embrace God's only Saviour. Indeed in Heaven the saved one worshipping before the throne of the Lamb are from every race an tribe: "After this I beheld, and, see, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands;" (Rev 7:9)

Can other religions, beside Christ alone, save people??  If we take the Bible seriously as it is written, the answer is a clear and resounding Ö NO.

(Joh 17:3-5)

"13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: 14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it." (Mat 7:13-14)

(Rom 5:6-8)

"For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." (Rom 6:23)
